Winter of 2025 was my first time growing “winter tulips”. I was excited but also nervous that things might not grow. Even with all my research and planning. I was very conservative in my numbers when I thought about how many tulips I would have to sell. But I planted for how many tulips I dreamed of selling and had all these ideas in the back of my brain with the “what ifs”……
At the end of February I was a legit winter tulip grower! I would have the occasional tulip fail, but overall I was getting great tulips! My neighbor knocked on my door and asked if she could buy some tulips. Of course! As I wrapped up her bouquet we chatted about how it was going (being a tulip farmer) and I told her I had this idea for a “tulip club” in Lake Almanor with 4 week subscription blocks but that I didn’t have a pick up place. And she said, ask Wild Things in Chester.
So here is my confession. I love Wild Things Floral and Gift. Kelsi (the owner) buys my tulips and I even work there sometimes when she needs help. We have become friends since meeting and I was getting in my own way when I considered asking her. But my neighbor made me realize I was being silly. If Kelsi didn’t want to be my pick up point she would tell me.
So I drove to Chester and stopped in. I explained my idea and when I asked if Wild Things could be the pick up point she said “Absolutely!”, and the Lake Almanor Tulip Club was born.
I am VERY excited to offer this subscription to my neighbors in Lake Almanor. These tulips are stunning!
